Tessa and Drew

Drew and Tessa met in 2013 while working at a Mexican restaurant in Fort Collins called Cafe Mexicali. At the time, both Drew and Tessa were students, Drew at Colorado State University and Tessa doing some pre-reqs for nursing school. Tessa was a shift manager and noticed Drew walking into work one day for the managers meeting. Because he was wearing a Colorado Rockies baseball shirt and also because she thought he was cute, Tessa said hello and that she liked his shirt. They began talking about sports and Tessa invited him to join the work fantasy football league.

Tessa had recently gotten out of a serious relationship and wasn’t looking for anything serious at the time, but felt her feelings grow fast and strong for Drew. He asked her out on dates a few times before she finally agreed. For their first date, Drew took Tessa to The Chocolate Cafe in downtown Fort Collins on a beautiful snowy evening. Big, fluffy snowflakes were gently falling to the ground under the strings of lights as they drank hot chocolate and ate peanut butter pie.

They had happily been dating for only a few months before Drew received a job offer as a high school math teacher and high school baseball coach in Phoenix, Arizona. They agreed to give the long-distance thing a try because they both agreed that what they had was something special. After 2.5 years of dating long distance, Tessa moved to Phoenix to be with Drew and start her career as a registered nurse. It was the best decision she ever made; the rest is simply history.

In 2017, Drew and Tessa traveled to Ireland with 5 of their closest friends. The trip included a stay in back country Ireland at a cabin on a hill overlooking a lake, tours of Dublin, kissing the Blarney Stone, and eating a lot of fish and chips. Towards the end of the trip, the 7 friends drove to see Ashford Castle. It was a huge castle with a moat, elegant and stunning grounds and gardens, and even a guard wearing a tuxedo at the entrance gate. Drew, Tessa, and their friends walked around to the backside of the castle, where a friend asked to take a picture of Drew and Tessa near a gorgeous fountain with the massive castle in the background. As Tessa got into position for the photo, Drew dropped down to one knee and proposed! To celebrate, they went to a pub outside the castle grounds and had champagne. Tessa was overcome with happiness and couldn’t wait to be Drew’s Galway girl forever.

Drew and Tessa wanted their wedding to reflect their easy-going attitudes and love of the outdoors. When they found the Pines of Genesee, they immediately knew it was the perfect venue for their wedding day. It was simple and yet beautiful. Tessa also knew she wanted to do most of the table centerpieces and wedding decorations herself to make it full of special details. The centerpieces for reception tables were simple: old/antique bottles of different colors, shapes, and sizes that Tessa had found at various antique stores filled with wildflowers and places on tree cookies that Tessa’s dad made. Tessa, her bridesmaids, and her mother also created the bridal bouquets, boutonnieres, and other decorative flowers. The bride’s bouquet was delicately wrapped in a piece of lace from her mother’s wedding dress. All the hard work and preparation was beginning to come together and pay off. On July 12, 2018 rain and storm clouds threatened the big day. However, just as the sun was shining out from behind clouds and beams of radiant sunlight shone down, Tessa walked down the aisle toward the love of her life, led by her father and serenaded by family members playing guitar, violin, and cello. Every piece of their special day was perfect and full of pure happiness. The night was complete with delicious food, scrumptious cake, unforgettable toasts, and silly dance moves. It was the best day of Drew and Tessa’s life. #trewlove
