Audrey and Jack’s lives overlapped in Phoenix, AZ for six weeks in the summer of 2012. Working together to train new teachers, they became fast friends. At the end of the summer, Audrey moved to Chicago to teach high school and Jack stayed in Phoenix to continue working. Little did they know that the distance between them would provide an opportunity for each to grow better and stronger! Jack and Audrey reconnected in 2015, and decided to make a trip to visit one another – Jack was living in Charlotte and Audrey in Chicago. It didn’t take long for the couple to realize that they had taken the scenic route in their relationship for a reason – the journey had prepared them for each other.
Audrey is a Colorado native, and the couple decided Denver would be the perfect place to put down roots and start a family. Jack and Audrey met in Denver to apartment hunt from their respective cities and Jack insisted they go hiking the morning before searching. Audrey was not a fan of this idea, but agreed. After making it to the peak of Lookout Mountain early in the morning, Jack dropped to a knee and asked for Audrey’s hand in marriage. The couple enjoyed a bottle of champagne together and had a very lively day of apartment hunting as they envisioned a new chapter of their lives beginning in Denver.
Jack and Audrey describe their wedding day as beautiful and humbling. Family and friends gathered from across the country to help the couple celebrate their day. The couple chose not to see each other before the ceremony, so the walk down the long path to the altar was all the more special. The forests around The Pines were green and lush in the heart of the summer, and provided a beautiful backdrop for the exchanging of vows. Audrey decided for that reason, flowers and extra decor were unnecessary, the natural beauty spoke for itself. A good friend and pastor married the couple in a ceremony that was both simple and very personal. Everyone told Jack and Audrey after their wedding day that the entire day felt authentically “them.”
